AmazonBasics is a well-known brand in the manufacturing industry, and we can agree their products across various sectors have proved to be exceptional. Their single monitor stand may not be the cheapest, but there is a reason it is our top pick for this particular use case.
Compared to the competition, I found it to have a much superior build which leads me to believe it will be more long-lasting. I also loved how versatile this stand is. For starters, the desk clamp will fit snugly on any desk measuring 0.4” to 2.4”. Then there is the fact that you can mount the larger monitors going up to 32 inches (though even 34 inches seem to be supported). Please ensure that you monitor does not weigh more than 25lbs. It supports both 75 and 100mm Vesa mounts.
This stand also allows more adjustment levels. You can tilt the monitor 5 degrees forward and 70 degrees backward and switch between landscape and portrait modes by rotating the stand through 180 degrees.
I was able to adjust the height by 13 inches although this reduced the heavier the monitor became. Monitors weighing more than 20lbs could only extend up to 8.5 inches.
If you are a programmer or a graphics designer, then you already know that having multiple monitors is one of the recommended ways to increase productivity. But two screen on your desk translates to even less workspace. Which is why I recommend the HUANO dual mount stand.
The mount is only able to successfully hold two 27" monitors with a maximum weight of 17.6 lbs. But what I really loved about it is the gas spring arms. These are far superior to mechanical spring arms and effortlessly sustain the monitors at the set height for longer periods.
Talking of which, the maximum height the monitors can be adjusted to is 13.8 inches. The arms also allow a full circle rotation and tilting angles of between -90 degrees to 85 degrees. I was also able to swivel the monitors to a maximum of 180 degrees. Therefore, regardless of where I was sitting, I still had an excellent viewing angle and could easily switch between landscape and portrait modes.
The mount is equipped with a C-Clamp so unlike the Ergotron WorkFit-S whose base covers the entire desk, this only clamps to a section of the desk. Nevertheless, I think the clamp's width could have been made more than the 2.36” currently supported.
The mount supports both the 75x75mm and 100x100mm mounting patterns and comes with a cable management system to reduce wire clutter on your desk.
The Ergotron WorkFit-S was one of the first stands to embrace the sit-stand work routine and has managed to stay at the top for years.
The mount comes equipped with its own workspace and a keyboard tray. Which was the first thing I found impressive since other similar products combine the two. The workspace is quite stable and can carry a maximum weight of 5 lbs. Which means you can use it to hold a cup of coffee and your phone comfortably.
The maximum height I could hoist the monitor is 22.8 inches, but this went down to 18 inches when I opted to move the monitor and the keyboard tray together. It also surprised me how easily the keyboard tray moves. I used just one hand to adjust it.
The desk clamp is compatible with desk surfaces ranging from 0.47" to 2.4". Nevertheless, I would advise that you use the strongest mounting surface since when you combine the weight of the stand plus the mounted monitors the total load is quite bulky.
The stand can only manage to hold two 22lbs monitors not exceeding 22". Unfortunately, the stand is limited in terms of tilt and swivel degrees. This means that it is only adjustable in terms of height and 360 degrees rotation.
But the good thing is that it is VESA compliant and will fit in just about all monitors. It also includes clips and zip ties to secure the connecting wires resulting in an overall clean workstation.
I recommend a wall mount when you have limited space. This way you can have the whole desk to yourself. Of course, since there is drilling involved, the installation process will take more time than the standard desktop mount.
Although there are many wall mounts that work, the VideoSecu is one of the most popular ones I have personally recommended to numerous readers and colleagues. And it’s easy to see why.
For starters, it is VESA compliant meaning it is compatible with almost all the monitors in the market. The material used to make the stand is also quite solid, and it's, therefore, not surprising it can hold up to 40lbs.
I found the VideoSecu quite flexible allowing 180 degrees of swivel and 360 degrees rotation. At full stretch, the mount stands at 15 inches from the wall, but you can also retract it to 2.5 inches to save on space. It can also be tilted both forward and backward by 5 degrees.
After testing various monitor sizes on the wall mount, I concluded that it works best with sizes ranging from 19 to 32 inches. However, as long as the monitor does not exceed the maximum load of 44 lbs, the screen size can go up to 47 inches.
If you are looking for a stand that saves you space while giving you the most immersive 3 monitor experience then I recommend the Mount-It triple monitor mount. The installation process is quite straightforward, and I was done clamping it to the desk in less than 15 minutes. The C-Clamp will fit on any desk of up to 4-inch thick and features a double lock mechanism for better stability.
The 3 arms can each hold a maximum screen size of 24" and a maximum load capacity of 22lbs. I also had no problems adjusting them to different height levels on the mounting pole which is 17.5" long. This is enough room for you to adjust the monitor to the best viewing position as per your height.
On the downside, I was a little drawn back by the little adjustability offered by the middle arm. It can only tilt up and down by 15 degrees and do a full circle rotation. However, this was forgotten as soon as I realized I could articulate the side arms in 3 different locations through an angle of 360 degrees. And they too could be tilted up and down by 15 degrees and rotated through 360 degrees.
Any mount stand that does not give me a way to declutter the wires is a deal breaker which is why I was impressed to see the Mount-it stand equipped with cable management sleeves. This Mount-It mount is compatible with VESA 75mm and VESA 100mm and specifically comes with the square bolt hole VESA pattern.
This is another solidly built mount stand that I believe would be an excellent choice to mount your 4 monitors. I like that VIVO made the mounting plates detachable. This really smoothened the mounting process for me. The only problem is that the plates fit back loosely on the arm which leaves the monitors a little shaky.
The arms also allow a 360 degrees rotation which means you can view the monitors in any direction. They can also be swivelled through 180 degrees, tilted forward by 90 degrees and backwards by 85 degrees.
This mount can only hold four 27" monitors with each weighing a maximum of 22 lbs. Thanks to the 28.5" mounting pole, I was able to use the monitors both in a sitting and standing position without straining my neck. It's actually the tallest desktop mount on this list.
This mount is VESA compliant and supports both the 75mm and 100mm connections. The integrated clip system is a welcome feature that ensures that what would otherwise be a messy affair of wires stays organized.
When testing this mount, I used the 4" heavy duty C-clamp but you can opt for the 3" grommet base which some have argued is more stable. This will involve drilling holes into your desk though.
If you have 6 small monitors looking for the perfect mount, then I would highly recommend the Halter Hex monitor stand. Can you imagine how much space it would take if you had to install 6 monitors each on its own?
The arm mounts are attached to a 28" pole and are all fully adjustable to cater for your needs. For instance, they can be rotated around the pole through 360 degrees so people around you can view the display regardless of their position.
The arms also allow 15 degrees forward and backwards tilt so depending on your desk height you can still use the mount in a standing position. I also loved that the arms allow a 180 swivel level eliminating the need to detach the monitors every time you want to switch between landscape and portrait mode.
The mount can hold a maximum number of six 20" monitors with each weighing about 13lbs. After mounting all the monitors, I noticed that the stand was drooping. At first, I thought it was because the arms could not support the weight, but I traced the problem to a loose pivot bolt. A quick tightening with the Allen key provided and all was good. I actually believe that the die-cast aluminium construction is capable of supporting even more weight.
The setup process was also not as involving and I was through in less than 20 minutes. The mount comes with a C-Clamp that offers the best stability if your is 3.5 inches and below. On the other connecting end, the mount uses the 75x75mm and 100x100mm VESA connecting pattern.
This is so obvious that I could just skip it. If you own 3 monitors, then the automatic choice for you is a 3-way mount stand unless you plan to acquire an additional one in which case you can purchase the Quad mount. Coders/developers usually opt for dual monitor. Gamers 3 monitors. System Admins 4 or 6.
The standard monitor standard is rigid and only allows minimal movement. Therefore, if you are purchasing a monitor stand it should have a higher level of flexibility. Some important aspects to consider in relation to adjustability include the rotation of the mounting arms around the vertical pole, left and right swivel angle and the maximum backwards and forward tilt possible.
This refers to the length of the vertical pole. It is important since it determines the monitor’s position relative to your eye. Your eyes should be on the same level as the monitor display in such a way that you do not strain your neck or back to view it.
Each stand comes with its own weight specification. To avoid overloading the springs that facilitate movement of the mount arms, make sure the weight of your monitor does not exceed the stand’s maximum load capacity.
This factor only applies in multiple monitor setups. Due to the spacing between the arm brackets, it may be impossible to exceed a certain screen size. If the screen exceeds the indicated size then they may not fit. Screen size limitation can also be a way to ensure you do not exceed the maximum weight capacity. This is because the larger a screen is then the more it weighs.
The accepted standard for how monitors, televisions and flat panel displays should be connected to the mounting stand is what is known as the VESA mount. Basically, it refers to the arrangement of the screws and connecting holes. Make sure that both the mounting stand and monitor are VESA compliant. In case your monitor is non-compliant, like most apple products, you will have to buy a VESA adapter to actualize connection.
Depending on the available desk space and intended use, you will have to choose between a wall mount and a desk mount. The wall mount is sturdier and will support more weight but it offers less adjustability and is not ideal for multiple monitor support. For this, you will have to opt for the desk mount stand. This can either be attached to the desk using a C-clamp or grammot base. The latter involves drilling holes to your desk and securing the stand to the desk using screws.
The most preferred build material is aluminium or steel although chrome is also acceptable. Some mount stands feature a combination of all of them. Nevertheless, what’s important is that the material is strong enough to withstand the monitor weight. Oh, the material should also be able to boost the aesthetics of your workplace.
Talking about general aesthetics, don’t you hate it when wires hang around everywhere in your office. I find it exhausting. Which is why your stand of choice should have the necessary mechanisms to hold the wires in a neat manner.
I hope this post has been the mind opener we intended it to be. By now you should already have a clear picture of the mounting stand that is best suited for you. But in case you are undecided, I will give you my personal favourite. Mind you, this is not easy especially considering each mounting stand serves a specific functionality.
But if I had to choose then I would go with the VIVO desk mount stand. It is affordable and does not compromise quality. I also like that it offers a multiple monitor setup and is arranged in such a way that I don’t have to necessarily have 4 monitors to use it. I can start with 2 and expand onwards which makes sense to me.
